Scanning the Shoebox

Recently liberated picture from shoebox #3
Hi, I'm Paul, a chemist with Kodak. I've been an avid photographer for many years; ever since high school ... and like most packrats, I think I still have 99% of all of the pictures I've ever taken. They are reasonably accessible, chronologically, in various size-9 boxes. I have done a couple of projects recently that have caused me to dig into the archive and you can see a couple of examples on this post. I've wondered how best to bring some of my favorite pictures forward, into the digital world - Fast and Easy, and Not Too Expensive. My friend Jose provided the answer. A few month's ago, Jose arranged for a scanning demonstration at the Camera Club Theater at Kodak Park here in Rochester. They'd put a robust commercial document scanner together with some novel software. Here's a recent news link and article. I'm now thinking that it's time to start cleaning my 1000 best slides. Nah !! I'll save that for later, when the weather here in Rochester gets lousy.

A picture delivered from the dark depths of shoebox #1
Jose Rivera, Kodak's new business development leader, has been shepherding the i660 at its various presentations. He said that reaction to the unit at PMA (Photo Marketing Association) was very positive and that Kodak was looking at various business models as they bring the scanner into the photo market.
Pack rats of the world... rest easy... help is on the way. How many shoeboxes do you have? Of course, the bigger your feet, the less boxes you would have.
